Shield
Scarlet (Gules) and white (Argent) are the colors of the Corps of Engineers. The section of the bridge crossing the lightning flash symbolizes the Battalions mission to facilitate operations. The black flash also depicts the effective destructive power of the units demolitions. The arrows represent the organizations constitution and first service as an Engineer Combat Battalion.

The crest is that of the Tennessee Army National Guard.
The coat of arms was originally approved for the 230th Armored Engineer Battalion on 15 September 1955. It was redesignated for the 230th Engineer Battalion on 4 November 1960. The insignia was cancelled on 28 January 1974. It was reinstated for the 230th Engineer Battalion on 16 February 1996.
